| A Three Phase Approach | ||||||||||||||||||||
|
1) Three-day drug and alcohol abuse prevention/education
workshops for students and faculty.
a) Students receive intensive, interactive drug and alcohol education, and preventative training. b) All students receive a free copy of "Drugs, Kids and Crime: Surviving our Drug Obsessed Culture" by Craig Farris 2) Installation of permanent, on-site, "Youth Peer Prevention Clubs" within each client school. These clubs provide students with a safe, nurturing, non punitive environment in which they can talk about their struggles with drugs and alcohol, family members or peers who are using, find peer and adult support, education, and resources. Through peer support we can change the climate within the school to one where abstinence is the norm, not the exception. Peer Prevention Clubs are facilitated daily by sober, young, adult men and women and are supervised overall by a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, school staff, and the CEO of the foundation. 3) Installation of an "Early Intervention System" within each client school at the administrative level. When we find a kid within the peer prevention clubs, or, elsewhere within the school who is showing signs of needing or wanting help, that child is referred to the early intervention system for professional assessment by Betsy Spier, MFT, a licensed therapist. Once a needs assessment has been made the child is referred to appropriate help, and guided to receive that help at whatever level of care deemed necessary. |

| “The
work Mr. Farris is doing has the potential of helping a lot of people in
our community. He has an incredible story and message and is uniquely
qualified to speak to the youth who most need to hear his message.”
Robin Bradley Kar, Professor of Jurisprudence and Law, Loyola Marymount University |
